BAC GIANG - To create jobs and increase income, many households in ethnic minority communes in Bac Giang province have recently joined hand to establish cooperative and cooperation groups in order to promote economic development, reduce poverty and improve quality of life.
Nguyen Thi Hai (born 1984), Tay ethnic is the head of the Trang Ban agricultural product consumption and cooperation group (Trang Ban Cooperation Group) in Dong Vuong commune of Yen The district. From a small household in charge of purchasing agricultural products, thanks to support from the People's Committee of Dong Vuong commune, Hai established Trang Ban Cooperation Group in 2020. Its members are provided with seedlings, fertilizers, plant protection product as well as caring instructions and product consumption.
Regardless of the season, agricultural products produced by farmers such as potatoes, onions, garlic, chili, tomatoes... are purchased from the fields then brought to the processing facility and packed for consumption.
Through production linkage, Hai's family earns a profit of more than 300 million VND (over 12,700 USD) after deducting the production cost. Her model also creates jobs and income for thousands of workers inside and outside the area.
As a mountainous commune of Son Dong district with ethnic people accounted for more than 80%, the lives of the people of Van Son commune mainly rely on agricultural and forestry production. Taking advantage of the terrain, in recent years, the local have boldly expanded the area of growing acacia, eucalyptus and raised six-fingered chickens.
To exploit this strength, in September 2022, the Commune People's Committee oriented and supported Tay ethnic households in Na Vang village to join hands and establish Phu Cuong Cooperative.
Chu Van Binh, Chairman of Van Son Commune People's Committee said: "Since the Cooperative was established, local people no longer have to bring chickens to sell in the market because the traders have come to their homes to buy. The six-fingered special chicken has become a local typical product with 3-star OCOP certification."
Implementing the project "Building cooperation groups creates a premise to develop agricultural cooperatives in the province in 2021-2025 period", for the past 3 years, the Provincial Farmers' Association has guided and supported the establishment of 164 cooperation group.
According to Nguyen The Thi, Vice Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, the cooperation groups and cooperatives established by the instructions of farmer associations at all levels basically operate effectively. Many entities have created strong brands for their products and are deeply involved in the production process along the value chain. The cooperatives even connect with businesses to export products abroad with a revenue of billions of VND per year.
According to the assessment of the Provincial Ethnic Committee, programs, projects and ethnic policies implemented in the province have contributed to eradicating hunger and poverty, increasing stable income for people and promoting socio- economic development in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, especially in extremely difficult communes.
Responding to the One Commune One Product (OCOP) program, since 2019, Bac Giang province has certified 290 OCOP products. Among these, many typical products jointly produced by householders in ethnic minority and mountainous areas bring high economic value such as: Son Dong vermicelli, Yen Dinh steamed pork belly (Son Dong); Ban Ven green tea (Yen The); Luc Son longan (Luc Nam)...
To complete the 2024 goal of reducing the rate of poor households by 2.5% in ethnic minority and mountainous areas, with particularly difficult communes reducing by an average of 3%, striving to bring 2 communes out of the especially difficult list, all levels, sectors and localities continue to determine that the important solution is to support individuals with production capacity to link and cooperate to establish cooperatives and cooperation groups toward mutual development.
