Kep rail station proposed to become international multimodal transport terminal
According to VNR, due to increasing demand for international freight transport through Dong Dang border gate, the transportation companies planned to transport 200,000 tonnes of goods through this border gate in January 2022. However, only 80,000 tonnes of cargos were transported in January due to limited capacity of the railways and warehouses at Dong Dang and Yen Vien international multimodal transport terminals.

In addition, when Kep rail station becomes an international multimodal transport terminal, it will help to process import and export procedures in Bac Giang Department of Custom, reducing custom clearance time and easing burden of Dong Dang and Yen Vien terminals.
According to a survey, the demand for international freight transportation at Kep station is about 10,000 to 15,000 tonnes per month. Thus, leveling Kep station into an international multimodal transport terminal will facilitate establishing a goods trans-shipment hub in Bac Giang province and neighbouring provinces which helps to reduce logistics costs, facilitate import and export companies and logistics providers because Kep station is located at the intersection of the railway routes including Yen Vien - Dong Dang, Kep- Ha Long-Cai Lan and Kep-Luu Xa.
Kep is a level-2 station at Km 68+700 on Hanoi-Dong Dang railway route, the starting terminal of 2 other railway routes including Kep-Ha Long- Cai Lan and Kep-Luu Xa. Kep station covers an area of 102,149 square metres, of which the southern warehouse with 27,657.6 square metres was granted land use right certificate by the provincial People’s Committee.
