Vietnam plans 9 new rail lines with a total length of 2,362 kilometres

Vietnam is looking to construct 9 new rail lines with a total length of 2,362 kilometres under its plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a view to 2050, recently adopted by the Prime Minister.

The longest is a 1,545-kilometre long high speed rail line running north-south from Ngoc Hoi Station in Hanoi to Thu Thiem Station in Ho Chi Minh City, with priority of investment being given to the Hanoi-Vinh and Nha Trang-Ho Chi Minh City sections.

Vietnam is looking to construct a high-speed rail line from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City.

The complete line is scheduled for completion by 2050.

The Yen Vien-Pha Lai-Ha Long-Cai Lan line will run 129 kilometres while the Ngoc Hoi-Lac Dao-Bac Hong will be 59 kilometres long.

The 102-kilometre long Hanoi-Hai Phong line, part of the Lao Cai-Hanoi-Hai Phong line, will run in parallel to the Hanoi-Hai Phong Expressway and connect with the port of Hai Phong.

In the central region, a 103-kilometre line will run from Vung Ang Port to Mu Gia on the Vietnam-Laos border.

The Bien Hoa-Vung Tau line runs 84 kilometres from Trang Bom to Vung Tau stations.

There will also be two other lines linking Ho Chi Minh City with Can Tho and Loc Ninh, with respective lengths of 174 kilometres and 128 kilometres.

The Thu Thiem-Long Thanh line will link Long Thanh International Airport with Thu Thiem Station and only serve passengers.

By 2050 Vietnam’s national rail network will include 25 lines with a total length of 6,354 kilometres.

Vietnam will need an estimated VND240 trillion (US$10.5 billion) up to 2030 to fund the projects.

Russian Railways to organise trains to Vietnam
JSC RZD Logistics, a subsidiary of Russian Railways, said it will organise trains from Russia to Vietnam’s Yen Vien station through China.
