A victim of an apartment fire in Hanoi is taken to hospital in the morning of September 13, 2023.

As of Tuesday morning, 70 people have been rescued with 54 of them rushed to different hospitals in Hanoi.

Bach Mai Hospital, which has received 19 victims, said two of them have died, another is in critical condition, and there are eight children. Others are receiving treatment for suffocation and injuries, it said.

Dong Da General Hospital said it has received eight patients as of 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, and four of them have died while the other four have been transferred to another hospital.

Dr. Nguyen Dinh Phuc, director of the hospital, said the patients were in panic. One of them suffered spinal cord injuries after falling from a high floor, while a woman and her child suffered suffocation.

A fire police officer said it's not clear yet how many people were at the building during the fire.

He said the fire has been put out but rescue forces are still looking for more victims as the terrain was complicated, with the building lies in a small alley and is divided into many rooms.

Fire police who rushed to the site have been approaching the building from different sides, climbing up from outside to rescue the victims on upper floors.
