Nearly 100% of higher education institutions achieve educational quality standards

Updated: 07:34, 28/11/2024

Nearly 100% of higher education institutions in Vietnam have been recognised as meeting the quality standards for the first accreditation cycle, and about 50% have been recognised in the second cycle.

A small number of institutions, such as specialised schools in arts and culture or newly established and internationally affiliated institutions, have yet to undergo any accreditation process.

According to the Ministry of Education and Training, as of the end of October 2024, a total of 2,113 training programmes have been accredited and recognised for meeting educational quality standards. Of these, 1,492 programmes were assessed based on domestic standards, while 621 programmes were evaluated using international standards.

“This is a remarkable figure, nearing the goal set by the government for programme accreditation by 2025,” stated Huynh Van Chuong, Director of the Quality Management Department of the Ministry of Education and Training, at a training workshop on quality assurance and accreditation for higher education and teacher training institutions held on November 26.

On the subject of assessors, with 260 new evaluators added after the recent examination process, Vietnam now has approximately 500–600 quality assurance evaluators. These professionals participate in external evaluation teams and quality assurance councils under accreditation organisations.

Leaders of the Quality Management Department announced that in 2025 they will advise the Ministry of Education and Training to conduct a five-year review of the implementation of Decision No. 78/QD-TTg, which approved the programme for developing the system of quality assurance and accreditation for higher education and teacher training colleges during the 2022–2030 period.
