"We have been developing the idea for the show for a long time," said Dang Diem Quynh, the show’s producer.

"VTV made Heritage Avenue to introduce the heritage of Vietnam and many other countries. We contribute to the protection of the cultural values of each nation."

The show included two parts entitled Vietnam - Dat Phat Ngan Nam (Vietnam - Buddha Land for Thousands of Years) and Heritage Avenue.

In the first part, audience saw clips introducing Vietnamese religious heritage and enjoy performances by veteran singers Ngoc Son, Phi Nhung, and Khanh Linh and hundreds of dancers. The highlight was a performance by 300 female monks and 120 dancers.

Heritage Avenue included performances focusing on intangible heritage by art troupes from India, Japan, Indonesia, Bhutan, China, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Vietnam.

The opening was Luc Cung Hoa Dang (Lantern Dance) which is a part of ‘nha nhac cung dinh’ (royal court music). ‘Nha nhac’ was recognised by UNESCO as an intangible heritage in November 2003.

Next the audience enjoyed dances such as Indian Odissi, Japanese Awa Odori, Indonesian Saman, and the Bhutan Cham.

"The first episode of Heritage Avenue is performed at the Vesak opening ceremony," Quynh said. "This is a great opportunity to promote the heritage of Vietnam and other countries."

The show was aired live on VTV's channel 1.

Seven Asian art troupes to join heritage avenue programme

Seven Asian art troupes from India, Japan, China, Bhutan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka are expected to perform at the heritage avenue programme hosted by the Vietnam Television (VTV) on May 12.

Vinh Nghiem pagoda festival – enhancing cultural heritage

(BGO) – Annually on the lunar February, Vinh Nghiem pagoda in Tri Yen commune (Yen Dung district, Bac Giang province) vibrantly welcomes the festive season. The spring festival this year boasts several new features. The pagoda space is expanded with many items newly built and restored, helping connect and enhance the national intangible cultural heritage.
