Over 200 billionaires to visit Ha Long Bay by superyachts

Updated: 15:21, 14/10/2024

Authorities in Quang Ninh Province said over 200 billionaires from Europe will arrive in Ha Long Bay by private superyachts in early 2025 to attend a week-long international festival.

The "Art for Climate Ha Long Bay" festival, to take place from Jan. 13 to 19, is expected to draw 80,000 participants, according to the province’s online portal.

Last week officials revealed plans to earmark seven secluded islands and beaches to cater to international billionaires and other high-spending tourists.

In the first nine months of this year Quang Ninh received 15.6 million visitors, a 20% increase year-on-year, with tourism revenues soaring 39% to VND37 trillion (US$1.49 billion).

They included 2.6 million foreign arrivals, the majority coming from China, South Korea, India, and France.

In early September Ha Long Bay hosted 4,500 employees of Indian behemoth Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, owned by billionaire Dilip Shanghvi.

Other Indian billionaires have in the past chosen Ha Long Bay's luxury resorts to hold wedding ceremonies.
