Overseas vocational education opens up new opportunities for youngsters

Updated: 10:14, 03/10/2024

BAC GIANG - With the trend of international integration, overseas vocational learning opens up many opportunities for young people to choose careers, enhance knowledge, language skills, and experience, and explore different cultures.

Currently, many students tend to choose vocational education abroad after graduating from high school. Tuition fees for vocational programmes in various countries and regions are not very high, ranging from 300-400 million VND (12,160-16,214 USD) per academic year, depending on the country.

The Bac Giang College of Industrial Techniques organises foreign language classes for students registering for overseas vocational education.

The training duration is from one to four years. Countries that many young people choose for vocational education include Australia, Singapore, the US, France, Canada, Germany, China, the Republic of Korea, and Japan.

Majors attracting a large number of international students comprise mechanical engineering, electronics, microelectronics, culinary arts, food processing, beauty therapy, and nursing.

Students attending vocational programmes in developed countries have opportunities to learn and research advanced vocational education programmes, and receive in-depth training in practical skills and machine operation to work in multinational environments.

In September 2024, 17 students from Lang Giang district who graduated from high school in 2024 chose to take part in vocational programmes at some universities and academies in Taiwan (China) through high school transcript admission. They are exempt from tuition fees for the first two years.

Currently, the Vietnam-Korea Vocational College of Technology is collaborating with 10 universities and colleges and over 30 enterprises abroad to offer vocational training up to Southeast Asian, Asian, and international standards.

In September 2024, the school cooperated with the Shandong Transport Vocational Academy to launch a training collaboration programme in China.

In the 2024-2025 academic year, it has sent 16 students from the Mechatronics Faculty who are proficient in Chinese, to study for four months at the Chinese academy.

This programme provides scholarships and supports student exchanges between the two institutions in specialized majors related to electricity and automation.

Recently, 20 students from the college completed a one-year advanced practice course in electronics at Daejin University in the Republic of Korea.

Currently, approximately 2,500 Bac Giang students are pursuing vocational education programmes in various countries and territories worldwide. During their overseas vocational study, they spend about 30% of their time on theory and 70% on practice with modern equipment and machinery, gaining access to global vocational skills.

They attend practice lessons right at the production lines of enterprises and receive financial support sufficient to cover their food and living expenses.

The vocational training programmes in developed countries have contributed to improving students’ skills, helping them meet the requirements of demanding job markets, creating a quality workforce that many large enterprises and corporations are eager to hire.

According to a representative from the provincial Department of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs, each year, renowned vocational schools around the world offer numerous scholarships to outstanding foreign students.

The criteria for receiving scholarships are publicised on the schools' websites. High schools in the province regularly inform students about overseas vocational study scholarship programmes announced by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Ministry of Labour, Invalids, and Social Affairs, and embassies of countries in Vietnam.
