Pham Tien San breaks his personal record at Berlin Marathon 2024
BAC GIANG- Pham Tien San excellently broke his own record at Berlin Marathon 2024 with a time of 2 hours 22 minutes and 46 seconds, jumping to the 3rd position in Vietnam’s marathon history.
Berlin Marathon 2024 took place on September 29 in Germany. Athlete Pham Tien San had an excellent performance to break his record with a time of 2 hours 22 minutes and 46 seconds, surpassing his old achievement in 2020 with 2 hours, 27 minutes and 30 seconds.

This is an important milestone in the career of this Bac Giang’s runner, lifting him to the 3rd position in the list of the best marathoners in Vietnam’s history, after Hoang Nguyen Thanh and Nguyen Chi Dong.
Tien San entered the race with appropriate tactics when he kept the running pace of 3 minutes and 20 seconds per km until running to the 35th km. This discipline helped him to maintain his stable speed on the race track. Although he lost his strength on the last 10km, breaking his personal record helped Tien San get to the top 100 most excellent runners at the marathon event in Germany.
Berlin Marathon is considered an ideal playground for athletes to set the records thanks to the flat running tracks and optimal conditions for marathon. Among the 6 world most prestigious marathon majors of the World Marathon Majors system, Berlin Marathon has witnessed 13 world records including the latest record of Tigist Assefa with 2 hours 11 minutes and 53 seconds at women’s event in 2023.
This year tournament attracted 58,000 athletes from 160 countries participating in a 42km track across the streets in Berlin.
