PM applauds USAID’s increased development budget for Vietnam

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh applauded the US Agency for International Development (USAID) for continuing to increase development budget for Vietnam while receiving USAID Administrator Samantha Power in Hanoi on March 10.

PM Chinh affirmed that Vietnam is ready to continue promoting its comprehensive partnership with the US in an effective and practical manner, based on the principle that the US always supports a strong, independent, prosperous Vietnam and respects each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity and political regime, meeting the benefits of the people of the two countries and contributing to peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.

He conveyed regards of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue and himself to the President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the Speaker of the Senate of the US.

The PM suggested USAID continue strengthening its support for Vietnam to overcome war consequences, especially in decontaminating Agent Orange/dioxin, bombs and mines; step up cooperation in climate change, healthcare, education, high-quality human resource development, and help Fulbright University Vietnam become a regional training centre; and promote green and digital transformation.

He also proposed USAID prioritise its support to mitigate the impacts of climate change in the Mekong Delta which is hardest hit by climate change in Vietnam.

Power, for her part, thanked the Vietnamese Government, ministries and localities for their close cooperation with USAID to effectively carry out the US-funded projects.

She vowed to continue promoting cooperation with and provide support for Vietnam, especially in areas suggested by the PM.

Regarding response to climate change, the official said it is the top priority of President Joe Biden's administration and also one of the areas that USAID is prioritising cooperation with Vietnam.

State budget revenue surpasses nearly 20% of estimate
State budget revenue reached over 1.69 quadrillion VND (71.4 billion USD) as of December 15, exceeding the estimate by 19.8%, the Ministry of Finance announced at a conference in Hanoi on December 19.
2023 state budget revenue estimate up 0.4%: report
State budget revenue in 2023 is projected at 1.62 quadrillion VND (68.5 billion USD), up 0.4% from 2022, according to a report on state budget, which was exclusively made for the public.
14 out of 16 budget collections surpass yearly target
(BGO) – Since early this year, total revenue collection in Bac Giang province has hit about 14.9 trillion VND (600,000 USD), exceeding nearly 19 percent agaist the estimatation assgned by the provincial People’s Committee in 2022 and 2.7 percent year on year, reported the provincial Taxation Department.
Budget collection from import-export up 14.6%
Budget collection from import-export activities topped 362.4 trillion VND (14.57 billion USD) in the first 10 months of this year, equivalent to 86.3% of the set target and up 14.6% year-on-year, according to the General Department of Customs.
Vietnam calls for budget guarantee for UN development system
Minister Counsellor Le Thi Minh Thoa, Deputy Permanent Representative of Vietnam to the United Nations (UN), called for international efforts to ensure financing for the UN development system’s operation during a debate of the UN General Assembly’s Economic and Financial Committee on October 14 in New York.
State budget collection almost reaches yearly target
State budget collection in the January-September period was estimated at over 1.32 quadrillion VND (55.9 billion USD ), reaching 94% of the yearly target, and up 22% from the same period last year, according to Deputy Finance Minister Nguyen Duc Chi.
