The inscription was announced at a ceremony held on April 5 in Tan Cuong Commune in Thai Nguyen Province’s eponymous capital city.

The ceremony to announce the recognition of the tea growing knowledge in Tan Cuong as national intangible cultural heritage.

Tan Cuong’s trade of growing and processing tea began in the 1920s. Since then, the cultivation area has grown to more than 1,300 hectares today, with an annual output of 20,000 tonnes.

The region’s soil and climate conditions are suitable for the tea trees while local residents have acquired a wealth of experience in growing and processing tea to create unique products.

To promote this value, Thai Nguyen Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh shared that the province will work to introduce the heritage to other parts of Vietnam and countries around the world.

He added that Thai Nguyen will also take measures to enhance community awareness on heritage preservation and maintain the local tea culture in life.

On the occasion, the Thai Nguyen City authorities recognised Tan Cuong Commune as an exemplary new rural area and announced the Tan Cuong Community Tourism Site.

Such recognition will help diversify Thai Nguyen’s tourism products, promote the value of tea, and attract more tourists to the province.

The land of heritage
