Programme honours outstanding athletes and coaches of 2022

A programme entitled ‘Glorious Vietnamese Sports’ was held at the Hanoi Opera House on March 19 to honour the outstanding athletes, coaches, and disabled athletes and coaches for disabled athletes of 2022.

The event was hosted by the Vietnam Sports Administration under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of Vietnam Sports Day.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Hoang Dao Cuong said that the programme not only aims to award the best athletes and coaches of the year but also provides an opportunity to review the achievements of Vietnamese sports over the past year and set new tasks for 2023.

He expressed his hope that the honoured athletes and coaches will make greater efforts to achieve excellent performances at sports events in 2023, including the 32nd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games 32), the 12th ASEAN Para Games, the 19th Asia Games (ASIAD 19), and the 4th Asian Para Games.

At the event, the organising board announced the top ten athletes, five coaches, five disabled athletes, and three coaches for disabled athletes, who attained excellent achievements in 2022.

The top 10 athletes include Nguyen Thi Oanh (track and field), Nguyen Huy Hoang and Tran Hung Nguyen (swimming), Huynh Nhu (women's football), Nguyen Thi That (cycling), Lai Gia Thanh (weightlifting), Ly Hoang Nam (tennis), Do Hung Dung (men's football), Nguyen Thi Tam (boxing), and Duong Thuy Vi (wushu).

Coaches Mai Duc Chung (women's football), Tran Van Sy (athletics), Nguyen Hoang Vu (swimming), Park Hang-seo (men's football) and Luu Van Thang (weightlifting) were named best coaches of 2022.

The list of top 5 disabled athletes include Do Thanh Hai and Vi Thi Hang (swimming), Le Van Cong (weightlifting), Nguyen Thi Hang (chess), and Nguyen Thi Hai (track and field).

Meanwhile, Nguyen Dang Vien (swimming), Le Quang Thai (weightlifting), and Bui Quang Vu (chess) were honoured as the most outstanding coaches for disabled athletes.
