According to the organizers, following the tradition of previous events, the 13th Press Award received a warm response from writers across the country, even from the border and remote localities. Since its launch in June 19 last year, more than 1,500 valid entries from five categories of printed and e-newspapers, radio, television, and press photos by nearly 200 press agencies, have been sent to the jury.

The authors are also from diverse backgrounds, including professional journalists working both in and outside the country, retired correspondents, and collaborators of news agencies who are intellectuals, scientists, veterans, teachers, students, adherents and ethnic groups across Vietnam.

The organisers decided to grant the 13th Press Award for the Cause of Great National Unity to 76 works, featuring one special prize, along with three A, 13 B, 27 C and 32 consolation prizes.

Accordingly, the co-special prize was given to VTC16 television channel and Radio the Voice of Vietnam (VOV) with a special report on ethnic minorities with very limited populations. The three A prizes belonged to author Hoang Lan from Phu Nu Thu Do (Capital’s Women) Newspaper, a group of authors from the Vietnam Television and another group from VOV.

Speaking at the event, VFF President Tran Thanh Man suggested that news agencies be more active in promoting the prevention and fight against corruption and wastefulness in the public, while fighting against distortion and malicious information from hostile forces to protect the people and the Party's views and policies for the cause of Doi Moi (renewal) and national interests.

The media was also urged to timely detect and praise new and advanced elements in patriotic emulation movements, as well as continuing to bring into play their role in social supervision and criticism and reflecting the aspirations of the people to the Party and State.
