The Vice President praised the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) for taking care of women and children, especially the humanitarian "adoptive mothers" programme, emphasising that after nearly two years of implementation, it has really become a fulcrum to spread the love for orphans across the country.
Xuan requested the VWU to continue maintaining the operation and sustainability of the programme, along with raising society's awareness and actions on child care and protection.
In the coming time, it is necessary for the union to study and multiply more models suitable to their assigned functions and tasks to help more women and children with special circumstances, she noted.
Extending her gratitude to the kind hearts of adoptive mothers across the country, the Vice President expressed her belief that they will continue to promote the good virtues of Vietnamese women and the tolerance of mothers to care for, nurture and support children's development.
VWU President Ha Thi Nga said that the union will continue to carry out the programme effectively and practically to take care of children and support for adoptive mothers to fulfill their roles, adding that it will also propose mechanisms and policies to enhance the effectiveness of the work.
Launched by the VWU in October 2021, the programme aims to mobilise and connect individuals and organisations to support orphaned children due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It focuses on encouraging local women where orphans are living to volunteer to raise and take care of the orphaned children daily.
The programme has mobilised over 115 billion VND (4.9 million USD) and sponsored 19,760 orphans so far, including over 3,000 orphans due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The Sunflower Summer Camp 2023 offers an opportunity for the children who have received support from the programme to meet and exchange with their peers from all parts of the country.
