Vietnamese agricultural, seafood and food products see huge potential in Japanese market

The Japanese market boasts a large demand for imported agricultural, seafood and other food products and is also considered a market with huge potential for Vietnamese enterprises in 2022, according to the Vietnam Trade Office in Japan.

Total bilateral trade revenue between Vietnam and Japan reached 42.7 billion USD in 2021, up 7.8% compared to 2020 despite the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Although Vietnamese seafood exports to Japan saw a decrease of 7.4% in 2021, other agricultural products posted high growth rates including coffee (up 25.5%), vegetables (up 20%), cashew nuts (up 39%), pepper (up 56%) and others.

Several Vietnamese fruit products also occupy a large market share and are becoming more popular in the Japanese market including dragon fruit, mango, coconut, and lychee.

A total of ten million Asian people, including nearly 500,000Vietnamese, were living and working in Japan as of 2021, creating huge potential for the import of Vietnamese products to Japan in the future.

Vietnam's agricultural, seafood and food products have become popular with various varieties on the shelves of major supermarket chains in Japan such as AEON, Donkihote, and Itoyokado.

The Vietnam Trade Office in Japan has always promoted its role as a bridge to connect Vietnamese and Japanese enterprises as well as conducting new trade promotion activities to adapt to the new situation, including the organisation of online workshops and the release of manuals to provide more market information for Vietnamese enterprises and exporters.
