Bac Giang to receive five more lychee growing area codes for Japanese market

(BGO) – Bac Giang province plans to cultivate about 28,000 ha of lychee with estimated productivity of 160,000 tonnes of fruits in 2022, including over 6,750 ha of early ripening lychee and 21,250 ha of main season fruit, reported the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (Department).

Safe lychee will be produced under VietGAP standard in 15,400 ha with total output of 113,000 tonnes. GlobalGAP lychees are maintained in available 82 ha and new 20 ha (under procedure to gain new certification), making total area up to 102 ha with expected quantity of 1,000 tonnes.

The Department will build two organic lychee production models with scale of 20 ha in Tan Yen and Luc Ngan districts (ten ha per district); digitalize 43 centralized lychee growing areas with total area of 430 ha in the districts of Luc Ngan, Tan Yen and Luc Nam.

Besides, the Department starts to implement the model to spray pesticides to 200 ha by drone, supports to construct three preliminary houses and stores to serve domestic consumption and export.

Apart from maintaining 149 lychee growing area codes (GAC) to export to China and 18 GAC to export to the US, Australia and EU, the Department reviewed to grant more five GAC in 50 ha to increase total GAC in 2022 up to 35 codes covering 269.45 ha with about 2,000 tonnes of fruits for Japanese market.

The province operates one steaming for sterilization and package facility in Bac Giang while linking to three more facilities outside the province to meet the demand of exporting lychee to Japan.

Vietnamese lychees impress Belgian consumers
The first batch of fresh Vietnamese lychees grown in Thanh Ha district, Hai Duong province was put on the shelves at the Carrefour supermarket in Belgium on June 23 and has received positive feedback from local consumers.
