Vietnam’s peacekeeping force ready to receive tasks in South Sudan

Updated: 07:46, 30/09/2018
Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lieut. Gen. Nguyen Chi Vinh on September 29 assigned tasks to military doctors of Vietnam’s first level-2 field hospital who will travel to South Sudan on October 1 to undertake the UN’s peacekeeping mission.

Vinh, who is head of the Defence Ministry’s steering committee for the participation in UN peacekeeping mission, asked the hospital staff to strictly follow the Party, State and Army’s foreign policy, as well as regulations of the UN and the Mission, and laws of Vietnam and the host country.

Vietnam’s engagement in the UN’s peacekeeping activities is a breakthrough to consistently implement the Party’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, peace, cooperation and development.

It also marks a change in both quality and quantity in multilateral cooperation in general and in defence and security in particular, while demonstrating the Vietnam People’s Army’s role in the country’s revolutionary cause and in implementing international duties.

This is the first time Vietnam has sent military doctors to participate in the UN’s peacekeeping force. The see-off ceremony will be organized on October 1 at Ho Chi Minh City-based Tan Son Nhat International Airport.

The military doctors, most of whom are from Military Hospital 175, will travel to South Sudan, along with medical equipment, to take over a field hospital of the United Kingdom whose personnel are about to withdraw.
