Apple teams up with Vietnamese rapper for first-ever music video collaboration

Apple debuts its first collaboration with a Vietnamese artist, releasing rapper tlinh's music video “Dung Lam No Phuc Tap” (Don’t Complicate It) Friday.

This collaboration is part of Apple's "Shot on iPhone" campaign in Asia.

Directed by award-winning Vietnamese-American filmmaker Bao Nguyen, the 7-minute music video, shot on the iPhone 15 Pro, tells the story of a fragile reationship in which both parties are full of doubts and unintentionally hurt each other.

The song lyrics’ bridge was written by tlinh to reflect on her own tumultuous dating experience.

With filming spanning six days, the music video features Kim Bien market, Hong Bang Junior High School, Ba Son Bridge and other Hanoi's landmarks. In preparation an action sequence in the video, tlinh had to train with a stunt team for weeks before filming begins.

A teaser for the music video was unveiled on Apple’s official Instagram account at 12 P.M on the same day, sparking a flurry of engagement with tens of thousands of interactions and hundreds of comments.

Rapper tlinh, born Nguyen Thao Linh, hails from Hanoi and rose to national fame when she competed on the reality television show Rap Viet and performed with Vietnam’s reigning queen of hip hop, Suboi. Ever since, tlinh has won the hearts of audiences with her distinctive musical style and captivating personality.

Apple's track record of partnering with artists for music videos includes notable works such as Selena Gomez’s "Lose You to Love Me" and Lady Gaga’s "Stupid Love," both shot with the iPhone 11 Pro.

In June 2023, Apple partnered with Vietnamese director Phuong Vu and makeup artist Yen Ji for its #ShotoniPhone advertising campaign.
