Pham Tuan Anh, Nguyen Duy Tuyen, and Hoang Thi Loan succumbed to respective 0-5 defeats against Adi Putra Komang Harik, Pamungkas Aji Bangkit, and Monita Sarah Tria in the men’s class E 65kg-70kg, men’s class I 85kg-90kg, and women’s class C 55kg-60kg semifinal matches.

In addition to the three bronze medals, the pencak silat team are expected to bring home gold medals for Vietnam in the next few days, as six martial artists, including Tran Dinh Nam, Nguyen Ngoc Toan, Nguyen Van Tri, Nguyen Thai Linh, Tran Thi Them, and Nguyen Thi Cam Nhi, made it through to the final of the men’s class F 70kg-75kg, class E 65kg-70kg, class J 90kg-95kg, and class C 55kg-60kg events and the women’s class B 50kg-55kg and class D 60kg-65kg categories, respectively.

Vietnamese sprinter Le Tu Chinh disappointed in the women’s 100m event, finishing 12th among the 16 semifinalists with a time of 11.76 seconds, even poorer than the milestone of 11.56 seconds that helped her claim the SEA Games gold medal in 2017.

As of 11pm on August 26, Vietnam stood at 24th position in the provisional medal table with one gold (rowing), seven silvers (one in rowing, two in wushu, two in weightlifting, one in swimming, and one in karate) and 12 bronzes (three in wushu, one in swimming, two in shooting, one in jujitsu, one in sepak takraw, one in taekwondo, and three in pencak silat).
