Bac Giang expands safe food supply chains

Updated: 08:05, 11/10/2024

BAC GIANG - Bac Giang province has established numerous chains from production and processing to sale for its key agricultural products, creating a supply of safe and convenient food that meets consumer demand. To develop these chains, the province has implemented various supportive mechanisms and policies.

According to statistics from the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the province currently has 86 production-consumption chains, including 51 for crops, 10 for livestock, and 25 in aquaculture.

Consumers choose livestock and poultry products provided by chains at a WinMart+ convenience store in Bac Giang city.

In addition, there are hundreds of organizations and individuals involved in providing safe agricultural products for food supply chains both inside and outside the province.

In Yen The district, the production and supply chain for safe hill chicken involves the Yen The Green Agricultural Cooperative and over 100 local farmers. All steps in the chain are operated under strict food safety regulations.

Leveraging internal strengths while utilizing state support mechanisms, the Yen The Green Agricultural Cooperative has invested in modern machinery and processing lines to produce vacuum-packed chicken meat, boiled chicken pie, marinated chicken, and dried chicken with lime leaves.

The cooperative has established partnerships with businesses, supermarkets, and clean food stores, as well as collective kitchens in and outside the province for product consumption.

On average, this chain supplies the market with 25-30 tonnes of live chicken (with traceability tags) and over 20 tonnes of chicken meat, boiled chicken pie, chicken sausages, and other products each month.

The province also features several other exemplary chains, such as the production and consumption chain for Thai Son sticky rice in Hiep Hoa district; the goat farming and consumption chain meeting VietGAP standards in Vo Tranh commune, Luc Nam district; and the clean pork production and consumption chain in Tan Yen and Hiep Hoa districts.

Participants in these chains support each other, saving investment costs and increasing profits. Importantly, every step from initial production to sale is closely monitored to ensure traceability and commitment to food safety. Products are sold at supermarkets, clean food stores, and convenience stores both locally and beyond at stable prices, meeting market demand.

Residents of Ao Ve village, Vo Tranh commune, Luc Nam raise goats according to VietGAP standards.

Establishing and maintaining safe food supply chains is a sustainable and effective economic development trend. Over the past time, Bac Giang province has directed departments, agencies and localities to implement supportive policies to ensure the sustainable development of these chains.

Thanks to supportive policies for expanding the scale and area of clean food production while ensuring food safety, the province now boasts over 45,000 hectares of high-quality rice; more than 15,000 hectares of lychee following VietGAP and GlobalGAP standards; and about 16,000 hectares of safe vegetables.

The proportion of poultry raised according to VietGAP standards is nearly 51%, aquaculture around 49%, and pig farming nearly 48%.

The province is also focusing on attracting investment to develop agro-forestry product processing, including preservation, deep processing and high-tech processing, linked with raw material production and product sale.
