Myanmar thanks Vietnam for swift earthquake relief efforts

Welcoming the Vietnamese delegation at Yangon International Airport on March 30, Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein praised Vietnam’s swift action, highlighting it as a testament to the strong ties and unwavering friendship between the two nations.
Major General Pham Van Ty, head of the Vietnamese rescue mission, extended deep condolences to Myanmar over the heavy losses caused by the March 28 earthquake.
He reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to supporting Myanmar in overcoming the aftermath of disaster and hoped for the country’s speedy recovery.
Upon arrival, the Vietnamese rescue team immediately proceeded to their designated coordination point in Naypyidaw, more than 450 km from Yangon.
They will work closely with Myanmar authorities on search and rescue operations. The mission officially begins on March 31, focusing on relief efforts in the hardest-hit areas while also delivering humanitarian aid to affected people.
To date, there have been no Vietnamese nationals reported to be affected by the earthquake originating in Myanmar, according to preliminary reports from Vietnam’s representative bodies in Myanmar and Thailand.
The Vietnam Red Cross Society (VNRC) Central Committee has received emergency aid worth 100,000 USD from the Red Cross Society of China (RCSC) to assist Vietnamese people affected by Typhoon Yagi and its aftermath.

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on September 20 announced that it has allocated 2 million USD to support Vietnam in carrying out efforts to respond to Typhoon Yagi, which struck the country on September 7 and caused widespread devastation with more than 290 deaths and 237,000 homes damaged, and some 3 million people affected.
Vietnamese people in Japan and Canada have provided support to people at home who were affected by Typhoon Yagi.
