UN humanitarian affairs body provides 2 million USD to Vietnamese storm victims
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) on September 20 announced that it has allocated 2 million USD to support Vietnam in carrying out efforts to respond to Typhoon Yagi, which struck the country on September 7 and caused widespread devastation with more than 290 deaths and 237,000 homes damaged, and some 3 million people affected.
Acting Emergency Relief Coordinator Joyce Msuya said in a statement that the aid from the Central Emergency Response Fund (CERF) aims to kickstart the humanitarian response in support of the Vietnamese Government's efforts.

The funding will go to the International Organisation for Migration, the UN Development Programme, and UNICEF to meet immediate life-saving needs in the worst affected provinces of Yen Bai and Lao Cai.
The CERF-funded response will focus on emergency shelter and water, sanitation, and hygiene assistance focusing on communities with high levels of pre-existing vulnerabilities to meet the needs of the people hardest hit by this disaster, said the statement.

On September 13, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) handed 700 gender- and disability-sensitive household kits to Vietnam’s Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) to support communities in the northern mountainous province of Yen Bai, which has been severely affected by Typhoon Yagi.
By investing in human resource development and public policy, Vietnam aims to strengthen the Southeast Asian nation’s position as a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain.
BAC GIANG- Typhoon Yagi has triggered widespread floods, isolated many localities, caused loss of life and assets in northern province of Bac Giang. Many organizations, units and individuals have joined hands with the entire political system to implement a number of voluntary activities towards the flood-hit areas to share difficulties with local people.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Thanh Binh hosted a reception in Hanoi on September 11 for Japanese Ambassador to Vietnam Ito Naoki, who delivered a message of sympathy from Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh regarding the recent impact of Typhoon Yagi.
