Bac Giang harvests nearly 40,000 tonnes of orange, pomelo

(BGO)- This time, the localities in Bac Giang are harvesting citrus fruits such as orange and pomelo. This crop enjoys big output and convenient consumption.

Particularly, nearly 40,000 tonnes of orange and pomelo have been harvested including more than 14,200 tonnes of pomelo and 24,800 tonnes of orange which are mainly in the districts of Luc Ngan, Luc Nam, Yen The, Son Dong and Tan Yen.

Yellow-flesh orange in Thương Vu village, Quy Sơn commune, Luc Ngan district is purchased by many traders for Tet occasion. 

The prices range from 10,000 to 15,000 VND (0.43 to 0.65 USD) per kilo of yellow-flesh orange, 25,000 to 40,000 VND (1.08 to 1.73 USD) per kilo of sweet orange and 12,000 to 20,000 VND (0.52 to 0.86 USD) per each pomelo, seeing a slight increase compared to the same period last year.

The total output of orange and pomelo this year is estimated at about 76,000 tonnes including 45,000 tonnes of orange and 31,000 tonnes of pomelo.

The localities have taken initiative in trade promotion via retail networks and convenience stores to facilitate consumption. Particularly, Luc Ngan district organized the trade fair of orange and pomelo for product promotion.

According to the provincial Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the other half of the citrus fruits’ total output will be consumed until Lunar New Year. A number or orchards have been paid in advance for purchasing by traders to serve people’s demand on Tet. The prices are predicted to increase especially pomelo due to lower output compared to previous years.
