Bac Giang promotes dialogue on workers' interests in enterprises

Updated: 17:13, 04/11/2024

BAC GIANG - In Bac Giang province, dialogue in enterprises is not just a regulatory requirement but a crucial strategy for fostering harmonious and stable labour relations. Local grassroots trade union officials have been instrumental in this effort, contributing to preventing disputes that could lead to collective work stoppages.

According to the provincial Federation of Labour, since 2020, the province has seen only eight collective work stoppages, marking a 50% decrease compared to previous years. Notably, since the start of 2024, there has been just one case in a company in Hiep Hoa district.

Representatives of the Labour Federation of Tan Yen district and the trade union of Tere Tech Vietnam Co., Ltd.’s Bac Giang branch engage with workers to capture their needs.

Nguyen Khac Dieu, deputy head of the federation’s Policy, Law and Labour Relations Department, attributed this success to the collaborative efforts of authorities at all levels, sectors and localities. He emphasized the importance of communications to raise the effectiveness of state management as well as the awareness of abiding by labour laws among enterprises.

Despite these advancements, challenges remain. The risk of labour disputes typically rises at the end of the year, particularly around salary and Tet (Lunar New Year) bonus. To mitigate this, in late October every year, the department advises the federation to devise plans on ensuring happy Tet for workers, focusing on holding dialogues to capture wages and year-end bonuses, especially in large companies.

“Dialogue serves as a vital channel for trade unions to listen to workers' concerns and wishes, and then propose company leaders make timely policy adjustments to remove disputes right after they arise,” Dieu noted.

At SungWoo Vina Co., Ltd., a wholly Korean-owned enterprise in the Dinh Tram Industrial Park, two collective work stoppages occurred in 2009 and 2011. In response, the company’s trade union developed a plan for business leaders to meet with nearly 400 employees every three months to facilitate direct communication between them. Additionally, worker feedback is collected daily through mail boxes and Zalo groups of production teams.

Bac Giang LGG Garment Corporation, which employs around 4,000 workers, has established a "core worker" team within each production unit to quickly grasp employee thoughts to submit to the company’s trade union, who will convey them to the leadership, while also promoting the dissemination of policies and laws to help employees feel secure in working.

Currently, Bac Giang province has nearly 1,900 grassroots trade unions, representing over 293,900 members, with 711 of them (over 260,000 members) based in enterprises. With strong guidance from the provincial Federation of Labour, workers’ legitimate rights and interests are increasingly protected, leading to notable improvements in their income and living standards.

Nguyen Van Canh, Chairman of the federation, highlighted the importance of training for trade union officials to enhance their skills in organizing movements for workers. He called for strengthening knowledge sharing in dialogue and expanding innovative, effective practices.

Each trade union official needs to proactively improve knowledge and skills to become a bridge in resolving workplace conflicts, particularly as the year draws to a close.
