Nguyen Ngoc Thach – Second biology prize at provincial contest

At the provincial contest for excellent students in the academic year 2018 – 2019, Nguyen Ngoc Thach at class 9A in the Junior High School in Cao Thuong town (Tan Yen district) bagged second prize in the biology with the score of 18.5, only 0.25 point less than the first winner. Thach was born in Quan village, Lien Son commune in a special disadvantaged household. His mother worked as the major labor in the family but unfortunately got traffic accident two years ago, leading to the severely effected health. Moreover, his brother suffered from congenital disability.

Thach always tries his best in studying thus gaining many achievements. After completing the primary school, he passed the exam to the high quality Junior High School in Cao Thuong town. The 5km distance to the school and the old bicycle could not discourage the student. Thach has secured the title of excellent student consecutively since the sixth grade and also the key member of the biology team in Tan Yen district.

In the evening, after doing the housework, Thach studies late at night. He often wakes up before 5am to review the knowledge and prepare for the upcoming lesson. Sharing about the secret of excellent study, Thach said there excludes any special thing instead of thoroughly listening to class lessons, noting and completing the exercises. Besides, Thach carefully reads the reference books of hundreds pages then records the useful information. The teachers usually highly evaluate his logical and creative methods of doing the examination.

Teacher Nguyen Thanh Hai, Vice Headmaster of the Junior High School in Cao Thuong town said: “Thach was born in a poor household. Though he is offered the direct admission to the Bac Giang Senior High School for Gifted Students in the academic year 2019 – 2020, Thach wants to study near his home so that he has more time to help his mother and care for his brother. We hope that the organizations and enterprises pay due attention to sharing the difficulty with him so as to ease Thach’s dream to school to become a doctor”.

Mai Thanh Huyen – Dreaming to gain full scholarship

The twelve grader Mai Thanh Huyen at K26 Chinese honor class in the Bac Giang Senior High School for Gifted Students has prominent academic achievements. The form teacher Than Thi Nguyet Anh said: “Huyen is really industrious and smart. She is not only good at Chinese but also firmly grasps the knowledge of other subjects. Besides, Huyen takes active involvement in the collective activities of the class and the school with high responsibility”.

In the academic year 2016 – 2017, Mai Thanh Huyen passed the entrance exam to the Bac Giang Senior High School for Gifted Students. Because the Chinese consits of many sets of characters and hieroglyphs, it takes time to practise reading, writing and pronouncing correctly in order to be language mastery. For the difficult words, Huyen must write from 30 – 50 times to bear them in mind.

Huyen lives with family in Tho Xuong ward (Bac Giang city). Her father earns unstable income from a free job while her mother is a retired worker so there are many difficulties in life. Once the form teacher wanted to apply a 5 million VND scholarship to Huyen but she refused in order to give the chance to other friends with much more disadvantaged circumstances.

Not failing the belief from parent and teachers, in the monthly examination, Mai Thanh Huyen always ranks in the group of students with highest score who are bestowed with the school scholarship.

To realize the dream of studying abroad, Huyen has recently completed the interview with representative of Nanjing University (China) to apply for the full scholarship. During the waiting time for the result (scheduled in next July), Huyen continues reviewing the knowledge and prepare for upcoming national high school examination in June.
