Bac Giang win women's team badminton at National Sports Games

Updated: 16:00, 21/11/2018
(BGO) - Right to the nature of a final match, the confrontation between Bac Giang and Thai Binh female badminton teams followed a very choky scenario. The final match of the badminton women’s team event at the 2018 National Sports Games, which took place at the Cau Giay Stadium in Hanoi on November 20 night, brought to the audience many emotions.

Clearly, the careful personnel preparation since 2017 has brought new vitality for the Thai Binh women’s team. They entered the final match with a great confidence. After Mai Anh lost 0-2 (6-21, 8-21) to Vu Thi Trang of Bac Giang in a single’s match, Phuong Hong equalized the power for Thai Binh when she surpassed Bac Giang’s talented young racket - Tran Thi Phuong Thuy with a score 2-1 (21-18, 17-21 and 21-14).

The final match takes place intensely and drastically.

Wishing to regain advantages for Bac Giang, but in the third single’s match, Nguyen Thi Sen lost her self and was defeated by Do Thi Hoai 0-2 (10-21 and 14-21).

It seemed that the opportunity for Bac Giang to defend the champion title was over because in the two remaining double’s matches, the young couple Van Anh - Ngoc Lan had very little experience in high-level competition. And in fact, in the first part of the match against Binh Tho - Pham Thi Khanh, they lost 14-21.

However, the climax was pushed up to the peak when in the second part, Van Anh - Ngoc Lan suddenly bounced back impressed by their youth to defeat their two seniors 21-18. In the third part, better physical strength and reasonable play helped Bac Giang players win 21-13, helping the home team balance the final score 2-2 after four games.

In the decisive match for the championship, the Vietnam No. 1 pair of Bac Giang, Vu Thi Trang-Nguyen Thi Sen, had a little difficulty in face of Phuong Hong-Do Thi Hoai in the early situations. But after finding the feeling of fighting and with perfect coordination, they overcame their rivals with a score of 21-14 in the first part.

Once again the dramatics occurred. In the second part, Nguyen Thi Sen repeatedly failed to beat the shuttlecock and let the rivals exploit the weakness in defending. As a result, the Thai Binh pair quickly finished this part 21-13 to balance the score 1-1. In the third part, stress was clearly seen on Sen’s face and also the way she beat the shuttlecock. She continued to fail in many situations, causing her opponents to constantly lead.

Luckily, the spirit, strong will and firmness of Trang pulled back the confidence of her teammate. At the end of the match, the two sides fiercely competed for each point, from 20-19 in favor of Thai Binh to 21-20 for Bac Giang. And all closed at 24-22 with Vu Thi Trang's decisive strike.

Thus, after 5 hours of competition, the Bac Giang - Thai Binh final match ended at 0:01am on November 21 with a 3-2 victory for Bac Giang. The choky victory, filled with sweat and tears, is the result of the tireless efforts of coach Chu Viet Bac and his students.

With this outcome, Bac Giang badminton won the gold medal in the women’s team event. This is also the first gold medal of the Bac Giang sports delegation at the 2018 National Sports Games. Hoping that with this beginning, Bac Giang will successfully compete in the games.
