Craft villages on year end season

Updated: 16:56, 15/10/2024

BAC GIANG - Although many craft villages in Bac Giang province have recently been heavily affected by storms and floods, they have quickly recovered, brought operations back to normal and prepared conditions to boost production to meet market demand at year end season.

Quickly restoring production

The traditional noodle making village of Thu Duong in Nam Duong commune (Luc Ngan) has nearly 200 rice noodle production facilities. During the recent flood, the water level of Luc Nam river rose rapidly, causing most of the production facilities to be submerged in water. Production was interrupted, leading to many orders being delayed and the village suffered an estimated loss of more than 30 billion VND (1.28 million USD).

Hien Phuoc Chu Rice Noodle Production, Trading and Consumption Cooperative in Nam Duong Commune (Luc Ngan district) fully prepares conditions to boost production to meet market demand at the end of the year.

After the flood receded, most households and cooperatives quickly cleaned up their facilities, focused on repairing and replacing machinery and equipment and invested in importing raw materials to resume operations.

Despite facing many difficulties coupled with input costs for production, especially the sharp increase in raw rice prices, the craft village has now basically restored production.

About 700 households in Van Ha Commune in Viet Yen Township still maintain the production of traditional products such as: rice cracker, rice paper, rice noodles and wine among others. The floods also damaged and washed away many assets, machinery and equipment of local people. However, after the flood receded, local households purchased and replaced tools and imported enough raw materials to resume production.

According to the representative of Van Ha commune, the local authority reviewed and calculated the damage then proposed to higher level for support, particularly debt extension and reduction together with preferential policies for people to borrow capital to reinvest in production and business, especially in the last months of this year.

Bac Giang province currently has 12 traditional craft villages and 15 craft villages recognized by the Provincial People's Committee, 8 of which 8 operate in the group of processing and preserving agricultural, forestry and aquatic products. Many craft villages have built brands, collective trademarks and geographical indications.

The market for craft village products is increasingly expanded and many have even been exported. Some production households and cooperatives have invested in upgrading production lines, machinery, equipment and technology to serve some production stages.

Busy with new season

This time is considered an important production season of the year for local craft villages. In recent years, the functional sectors and localities have had many policies to support and encourage innovation in technology and production processes of craft village products in order to diversify products, reduce environmental pollution, improve productivity, quality, ensure food hygiene and safety, thereby enhancing competitiveness in the market.

Normally, from the end of October every year onward, the number of orders will increase sharply. However, unlike other products, the production of food items such as noodles, vermicelli, rice noodles and others depends a lot on weather factors. Therefore, taking advantage of this favorable weather, local people focus on boosting production to increase the quantity.

Arriving at Tho Ha village in early October, we saw that the village atmosphere has become bustling again. Local households have concentrated on producing the products while many traders had brought their vehicles to import goods for sale.

In addition to food processing villages, handicraft and carpentry villages are also busy with high expectations for growth at the end of the year. Bai Oi village in Dinh Tri commune (Bac Giang city) currently has more than 150 households engaged in traditional carpentry.

According to Nguyen Van Cuong, the owner of a wooden furniture manufacturing facility, the wooden furniture manufacturing and trading sector has encountered many difficulties in recent times.

However, according to the rule, at the end of the year, the wood industry market will be improved due to increased purchasing power. Currently, his family's production facility has mobilized labour and production machinery in associated with product connection and promotion to find a market for consumption.
