Exhibition to introduce weaving craft of Co Tu ethnic people

An exhibition introducing the traditional weaving craft of the Co Tu ethnic people in Quang Nam province will be held in Hanoi on August 1-2.

The event is being organised by painter Le Thiet Cuong, Gallery 39, Vietnam Handicraft Exporters Association (VietCraft), and Tia Sang (A Ray of Light) magazine.

In addition to admiring the traditional weaving products made by the skillful hands of the Co Tu people, visitors to the exhibition will also have an opportunity to explore the group’s customs and culture as well as listen to the craftsmen sharing information about their traditional craft.

The event is being held under the framework of a project on improving minority communities’ livelihoods through developing value chains of bamboo, rattan and herbal plants in Quang Nam.

Funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID), the project has been implemented since September 2019 in the mountainous districts of Quang Nam, including Dong Giang, Tay Giang and Nam Giang, where a majority of the Co Tu ethnic group in Vietnam are located.

The project has benefited more than 450 local households, who have been supported in developing rattan growing areas and who have receive training on making rattan and bamboo handicrafts.
