Former State President Tran Duc Luong passes away

Former Politburo member and former State President Tran Duc Luong, born on May 5, 1937, passed away at 22:51 on May 20 at his residence in Hanoi, aged 88, after a period of illness, according to the specialised council for protection of central-level officials' health.
Despite the dedicated treatment provided by the Party, the State, a team of professors and medical doctors, and the devoted care of his family, his advanced age and declining health ultimately led to his passing.

A memorial service was held on December 8 in Ho Chi Minh City for 12 soldiers who lost their lives during a military exercise in the southern province of Dong Nai five days ago.
The State Funeral Board and the family of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong delivered a thank-you message following the burial service for the Party leader on July 26 afternoon.
The funeral for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong is organised in the national mourning etiquette. The respect-paying and memorial ceremonies take place concurrently at the National Funeral Hall, No. 5 Tran Thanh Tong street, Hanoi, Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City and at the leader’s native land in Dong Hoi commune, Dong Anh district, Hanoi.
A respect-paying ceremony in the national mourning etiquette was solemnly held for General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee Nguyen Phu Trong at the National Funeral Hall in Hanoi, the Thong Nhat Hall in Ho Chi Minh City, and his hometown in Dong Hoi commune of Hanoi’s Dong Anh district on July 25.
More than 4,000 Youth Union members and young people have registered to volunteer to serve at the State funeral of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, scheduled for July 25 and 26, according to the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Hanoi.
Hanoi has banned large vehicles on key highways during the two-day state funeral for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday and Friday.
