Bac Giang promotes cooperation with German partners

Updated: 11:06, 21/05/2025

BAC GIANG – Bac Giang province is seeking stronger economic and investment ties with German partners, particularly in renewable energy, as part of broader efforts to boost international cooperation and sustainable development.

The Permanent Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee (PPC) Mai Son on 20 May welcomed Helga Margarete Barth, the German Ambassador to Vietnam, during her working visit to Bac Giang.

The meeting was also attended by representatives of provincial departments and Enertrag Vietnam Company Limited – a subsidiary of the German renewable energy firm Enertrag, which is planning wind power projects in the province.

On behalf of provincial leader, the PPC Vice Chairman Son expressed delight at the visit and highlighted the opportunity to deepen mutual understanding and enhance practical cooperation between Bac Giang and German partners.

He noted the strategic partnership between Vietnam and Germany and emphasized Bac Giang’s readiness to expand collaboration.

Providing an overview of the province, Son said Bac Giang has recorded some of the highest economic growth and investment attraction rates in Vietnam in recent years.

The province is known for its abundant high-quality agricultural products, especially lychee, and has a significant number of workers employed abroad.

More than 200 students from Bac Giang are currently studying in Germany, and some local institutions have already begun offering German language education.

Germany is one of Vietnam’s key trade partners. However, among the 31 countries and territories investing in Bac Giang, no German companies have made direct investments yet.

Only two German firms have contributed capital indirectly. Currently, 63 Bac Giang-based enterprises export to Germany, while 23 import goods from the German market.

The provincial leader noted that the province has planned 10,000 hectares of industrial land by 2030, with only about 30% currently occupied, signaling ample room for future enterprise development. This also entails a growing demand for power, especially for production and residential needs.

Enertrag Vietnam has conducted feasibility studies for two wind power projects: Bac Giang Wind Power Plant 1 in Luc Nam District and Bac Giang Wind Power Plant 2 in Son Dong District. The projects cover several communes and are seen as part of a broader strategy to develop renewable energy in the province.

The PPC Vice Chairman highlighted the upcoming administrative merger between Bac Giang and Bac Ninh provinces into a new, larger Bac Ninh province, which is expected to rank fifth nationwide in terms of economic scale.

He called on Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth to support Enertrag Vietnam’s projects and help connect Bac Giang with German organizations and businesses involved in renewable energy, green technologies, mechanics and semiconductors.

Also, he urged efforts to facilitate trade, particularly the export of key agricultural products such as fresh and processed lychee to Germany and the European market.

Ambassador Helga Margarete Barth expressed appreciation for the detailed information shared and reaffirmed Germany’s interest in clean energy development in northern Vietnam.

She noted that German firms are under increasing pressure from their parent companies in Germany, the U.S., and Europe to ensure that production is powered by clean energy – a goal also underscored by Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.

The ambassador encouraged local authorities to prioritize support for the two wind power projects, enabling the investor to complete the necessary procedures and obtain permits promptly.

Representatives from Enertrag Vietnam thanked provincial departments for their assistance so far, including facilitating site access and providing preliminary land use data.

The company shared its experience operating hydrogen and wind energy projects in multiple countries, employing over 1,200 high-skilled workers globally. In Vietnam, Enertrag is focused not only on power generation but also on creating jobs and ensuring environmental sustainability.

The firm has completed its investment proposal dossiers and hopes to receive continued support from Bac Giang’s departments to fulfill all legal requirements and launch the projects successfully.
