The bridge is expected to reduce congestion and promote production and business.
The total investment cost is around VND8.3 trillion ($352.2 million), to be derived from the city’s budget. Construction is expected to be done in four years, from 2023 to 2027. The main investor would be the Hanoi Management Board for Traffic Infrastructure Investment and Construction Projects.
To ensure that the traffic system is well-coordinated, the Hanoi People’s Council has also approved the investment to construct ring roads from Thuong Cat Bridge to National Highway 32, with a total investment of around VND1.5 trillion. Construction is expected to complete in 2026.
Thuong Cat is one of 10 new bridges planned across the Red River per Hanoi’s traffic planning agenda for the 2015-2030 period, besides the current eight ones.
