Hanoi's metro line to begin service in late 2021

Updated: 17:18, 29/10/2020
The Nhon-Hanoi Railway Station metro line, the third metro line in Hanoi, is scheduled to begin commercial operation of the elevated section in late 2021, while the construction of the underground tracks will commence in the first quarter of 2021.

The information was released at a press briefing on the third metro line of the capital city held by the French Embassy in Hanoi on October 28.

The first train for the Nhon-Hanoi Station line arrives at the Nhon Depot in Hanoi in September.

French Ambassador to Vietnam Nicolas Warnery said that, after considerable efforts, the first train (out of 10 trains) for the Nhon-Hanoi Station line departed from Dunkerque Port in France and arrived at the Nhon Depot in Hanoi in September.

According to the ambassador, before being put into official operation in 2021, the project will run a test for the elevated section while tunneling for the underground section in Hoai Duc District.

The line will contribute to a significant reduction in CO2 emissions, thus contributing to the fight against climate change, the diplomat noted.

Head of the Hanoi Metropolitan Railway Management Board, Nguyen Cao Minh, said at the press briefing that the Nhon-Hanoi Station line is one of the nine metro lines planned for Hanoi, which are expected to become the backbone of the traffic system in Hanoi.

He noted that the overall progress of the project has reached nearly 66%, of which the progress in construction and equipment installation for the overhead section has reached approximately 81%.

“Our goal is to put the elevated section into operation by the second half of 2021. We are committed to making full use of our resources to ensure progress in the next phases of the project,” Minh emphasised.
