Honours given to historic milestones

Updated: 18:35, 25/08/2024

These days, the entire Party, people, and military of Vietnam are once again turning their attention to the important historical events of the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day.

Under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam and great leader Ho Chi Minh, the Vietnamese people rose to break the chains of colonial and feudal oppression, establishing the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, and ushering the country into an era of national independence and socialism.

On August 19, 1945, tens of thousands of people in the capital flocked to the Hanoi Opera House square to celebrate the victory of the August Revolution.

The people gained freedom, became masters of their own lives, built a new life, and gradually realised the noble humanistic ideals of happiness, prosperity, and equality among all people.

Among the many valuable lessons learned and remembered by past and present generations is the great experience of national unity, the organisation of forces, the mobilisation of the masses, and the synthesis of the people’s strength to carry out revolutionary activities and achieve great victories.

The collective will and determination of our Party and people over many decades have contributed to the country's continuous successes. This has been vividly reflected in how they have continued to learn, apply, and strive to build and develop the country and to leverage the achievements of our historical values and great victories.

In recent times, the Party and State have continued to provide direction. The Government has actively overseen the completion of key projects serving the commemoration of the country’s major anniversaries, such as the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam on February 3, the liberation of the South and national reunification on April 30, the historic Dien Bien Phu victory on May 7, the birthday of President Ho Chi Minh on May 19, the August Revolution and National Day on September 2, and the founding of the Vietnam People’s Army on December 22.

Simultaneously, research has been conducted to implement large programmes and events, such as national seminars, state-level rallies, political arts programmes, the creation of literary and artistic works, and the care and development of revolutionary base areas, all to honour historical milestones and pay tribute to the forebears of the nation’s revolution.

Alongside the leadership and the political system, many vibrant commemorative activities have been held on these significant national holidays. Many localities, organisations, and groups have been creative in both form and content, linking commemorative events with activities of historical, cultural, scientific, social, tourism, sports, and charitable significance.

These major programmes and diverse activities reflect the unity of the Party’s will and the people’s hearts in demonstrating respect, promoting history, and expressing gratitude to the ancestors.

More broadly, they are seen as important political, social, and cultural activities to educate the revolutionary spirit, in the present and future contexts. Through these efforts, the entire society, especially the younger generation, is imbued with the spirit and responsibility towards the nation.

More broadly and practically, these efforts help to foster and ignite the determination to protect national independence, sovereignty, and the unity of the people, to continue recognising and creatively applying the lessons of history and revolution in the work of Party building and political system reform and the cause of socio-economic development and international integration in the new era.

The profound understanding of the significance of these historical events strengthens people’s confidence towards new achievements in the cause of national construction and defence, with the goals of a prosperous people, a strong country, and a democratic, just, and civilised society.
