Joyful Christmas in Bac Giang province

(BGO) – Despite bone-chilling cold, people streamed down streets to come to churches and places of entertainment in Luc Nam and Hiep Hoa districts and Bac Giang city (Bac Giang province) to celebrate Christmas on December 24 night. Both Catholics and non-Catholics joined together to welcome a peaceful and merry Christmas and wish a happy New Year.

In Bac Giang city, streets near Bac Giang Church were decorated beautifully. Many stores offered big sales to attract customers. Gifts were sought-after as most of people wanted to give meaningful presents to their beloved. The Santa Claus service was also preferred by a number of parents and youngsters who want to hire Santa to deliver gifts to their relatives.

Notably, a Christmas tree, which is 15 meters tall and 7 meters in diameter, was erected at February 3 Square by the Centre for Culture and Sports of Bac Giang city, becoming a highlight of this year’s Christmas. It was decorated colorfully, attracting a large number of people to come to enjoy Christmas.

A programme themed “Peaceful Christmas” was organized by the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of Bac Giang city, featuring various singing, dancing and magic performances by local young people such as those from Thai Thuan High School, Mai Xanh Club, and Guitar Plus Bac Giang club. The audience also had a chance to take part in collective games and win many gifts.

Meanwhile, authorized forces were also deployed to key streets to keep security, order and safety for local residents to enjoy Christmas.

Nguyen Thi Ha, a resident on Nguyen Cao street in Ngo Quyen ward of Bac Giang city, said: “Though we are not religious followers, my relatives and I go to enjoy the Christmas atmosphere and share the joy with other people every year. This year, the Noel seems to be happier than the previous years. The city is adorned brightly and impressively, giving joy and belief in a happy and lucky New Year to all people.”
