Luc Ngan – the land of all year round fruits

(BGO) – Recently, Luc Ngan district (Bac Giang province) is famous for not only the delicious and nutritious lychees but also the key fruit producing area in the Northern areas with high quality fruits such as orange, pomelo, ongan, guava, jujube....which help bring high income for the local farmers. 

In 2020, the fruit cultivation area in Luc Ngan covered nearly 28,000 ha with total productivity of fresh fruits of over 165,000 tonnes that brought total income of over 3,300 billion VND (142.3 million USD), accounting for 70 percent of the whole agro – forestry production value.

Also, it helped increase the average agriculture production value in the district up to over 130 million VND per ha, especially billions of VND per year in some areas of lychee and jujube.

The citrus fruit trees are mostly grown in the communes of Hong Giang, Tan Moc, Thanh Hai, Giap Son, Quy Son...This year, the district output of orange and pomelo is estimated at 60 – 70,000 tonnes, up more than 2,000 tonnes of fruits comparing to last year figure.

The fruits have been consumed easier recently, even several tradesmen visit the orchards to deposit money for future order.

Luc Ngan district has applied planning strategy to each kind of fruit. Previously, the science and technology have been applied to enhance the productivity and quality to the existing area, including 15,290 ha of lychee, nearly 7,000 ha of orange and pomelo as well as 5,000 ha of other fruit trees.

At the same time, the orchard owners and cooperatives are provided with instruction to build the geological identification, apply safe production procedure to make trademark for the products of citrus fruit trees as well as gradually bring them further with higher quantity and value.

After much dedication and effort to build up the firm stand and trademark for lychee to gain ease export via specific gate and all day round customs declaration, now the district is conducting several measures to consume orange, pomelo, guava and jujube.

The local farmers are not only active in production but also firmly grasp the technique to care for the crops to gain high economic value.

All the efforts aim to create dramatic changes from farming organization to product distribution and consumption as well as higher income for the local orchard owners. Luc Ngan’s farming sector and farmers now become the target for many people and localities.
