Many foreign workers stay back Bac Giang for Tet
Currently, there are 6,100 foreign labourers working for enterprises in the industrial parks in northern province of Bac Giang including nearly 70 percent of Chinese labourers. Like Vietnamese people, Tet is also an opportunity for Chinese to reunite with their family and relatives, thus many workers planned to return their home country for Tet.

According to Nguyen Xuan Ngoc, Deputy Head of the provincial Industrial Zones Authority (IZA), orders of majority of foreign direct investment (FDI) enterprises have been signed by the end of August 2021. Moreover, amid complicated developments of Covid-19 pandemic in many countries, a number of enterprises encouraged their employees especially experts to stay back Bac Giang for Tet while providing them with incentive policies.

IZA also popularizes Vietnam’s policies and regulations on the pandemic prevention and control, handles procedures related to foreign labourers to come back to work in Bac Giang after returning home for Tet and encourages labourers to “stay at where they are staying”.

Currently, Chinese government requires 21-day quarantine instead of 14 days as before. If one worker returns his country, it will take him total 42 days for quarantine including 21 days in China, 14 days more after come back Vietnam and 7 pending days awaiting for Covid-19 testing result that will dramatically affect the company’s operation and pose high risk of the pandemic infection.
In addition, each case undergoing medical quarantine in Vietnam will have to pay an expense from 10 to 15 million VND (431 to 647 USD); hence a lot of foreign workers decided to stay back Vietnam for Tet.
Particularly, only about 500 out of 2,400 foreign employees of Luxshare-ICT Company Limited return home on Tet. 300 out of 700 foreign employees of Hong Hai Technology Group return their countries for Tet this year.
While only 10 percent of foreign labourers working in the industrial parks stayed in Bac Giang for Tet last year, the number jumps to 60 percent this year.
In order to help foreign experts and engineers feel secure at work, the provincial People’s Committee has approved tens of their family members (wives and children) to enter Vietnam with family visit visas or under long-term guarantee.
