Updated: 20:39, 10/08/2024

The Vietnam National Mine Action Centre and the Catholic Relief Services held a ceremony in Hanoi on August 9 to announce the launch of the national digital library to prevent accidents caused by bombs, mines and explosives.

Launched at http://thuviendientu.vnmac.gov.vn, the library is designed as a virtual gallery allowing users to explore functional rooms, such as the cinema room, which includes documentaries, news, and animated videos on how to handle bombs, mines and explosives accidents.

National digital library launched to raise public awareness of bombs, mines and explosives incident prevention.

The exhibition room displays 3D and 2D designs, and photos of nearly 300 types of bombs, mines, and explosives, which have been found across 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam.

The library also features paintings, photos, books, reports and legal documents on the settlement of bomb and mine consequences, and bomb and mine accident prevention education activities.

According to VNMAC Deputy Director Giang Cong Bau, the inauguration of the library is significant progress in the education of prevention of accidents caused by bombs, mines and explosives.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), Vietnam remains littered with about 800,000 tonnes of UXOs left over from the war. As of 2023, Vietnam had more than 5.59 million hectares of UXO-polluted areas or nearly 17.7% of the country’s total area.

The leftover UXOs are scattered across all 63 localities, mostly in the Central, Central Highlands and Southeast regions.
