Outstanding artisans in intangible culture field honoured

Vinh Long province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism organised a ceremony on June 19 to honour Meritorious Artisans in the field of intangible cultural heritage and announce the decision on recognising two national treasures.

This is the second time in 2019 the President has decided to present the title ‘Meritorious Artist’ to 561 individuals throughout the country for their outstanding contributions in preserving and promoting the intangible cultural heritage.

Accordingly, Vinh Long province has 15 individuals honoured, including Khmer artisans.

On this occasion, Vinh Long provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism also announced the decision of the Prime Minister on recognising 22 national treasures in 2018; in which, Vinh Long province has for the first time, an artifact recognised as a National Treasure.

Statue of Vishnu is recognised as a National Treasure.

The artifact is a statue of Vishnu in Vung Liem district, dating back from the 6th and 7th centuries of Oc Eo culture.

Currently, the treasure is preserved by Vinh Long Provincial Museum.

A show featuring the heritage of Vietnam and Asian countries was held by Vietnam Television (VTV) on May 12 night. The show entitled Dai Lo Di San (Heritage Avenue) included music, songs and dances.
Seven Asian art troupes to join heritage avenue programme
Seven Asian art troupes from India, Japan, China, Bhutan, Thailand, Indonesia, and Sri Lanka are expected to perform at the heritage avenue programme hosted by the Vietnam Television (VTV) on May 12.
