Quang Tri to mark national reunification with grand festival
The office of the provincial People’s Committee said on April 10 that one of the major activities within the festival is an art programme at Hien Luong Bridge across Ben Hai River, which divided North and South Vietnam during war, on April 29.

The programme, to be organised by the Vietnam News Agency, Nhan Dan (People’s) daily and the provincial People’s Committee, will include performances of artists from the Vietnam Contemporary Art Theatre and their local colleagues.
Social policy beneficiaries will receive gifts within the programme, which will be broadcast live on the People’s TV Channel and local radio and TV channels.
Other activities like a flag-raising ceremony, an inaugural ceremony of the project on upgrading the southern bank of the Hien Luong-Ben Hai special national historical relic site, a boat race and a Bai Choi singing performance will take place on April 30.
Quang Tri was one of the most devastated localities during the American War by thousands of tonnes of bombs and shells. The province was also well known for the fierce 81-day-and-night battle at Quang Tri Citadel.
The fight contributed to Vietnam’s ultimate triumph and was a prerequisite for the General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1975, which liberated the south and reunified the country.
