Shuttle buses ensure workers’ safety

Updated: 16:38, 27/09/2021
(BGO) - Following the instructions of the provincial Department of Transport on transporting workers in the new situation, many workers in Bac Gaing province go to work every day by bus. However, there are still tens of thousands of people using personal vehicles to reach their factories, causing some consequences, so timely solutions are needed.

Workers going to work by shuttle bus increase

As soon as the Covid-19 epidemic was put under control, the Department of Transport instructed the transport of workers in the new situation in two forms: the employer transports workers (using own vehicles and contract buses); or groups of workers hire shuttle buses. The flexible application of options has created favorable conditions for workers to move by bus.

Up to now, the Department of Transport has labelled nearly 1,000 buses carrying workers, nearly 3 times higher than before the epidemic. Of which, 896 vehicles operate in industrial parks and the rest in industrial clusters, serving the travel needs of about 30,000 workers, double the previous figure.

Although the number of shuttle buses has increased sharply, workers going to work by bus account for a low proportion compared to the total number. There are still 70,000 out of 200,000 employees using personal vehicles to go to work (mainly motorbikes), leading to many traffic jams and a high risk of traffic accidents.

Supporting worker transport connection

In order to increase the number of vehicles transporting workers daily, thus reducing traffic jams, together with issuing bus badges, the Department of Transport has cooperated with the provincial Industrial Parks Management Board, the People's Committees of Viet Yen, Yen Dung and Luc Nam districts, and Bac Giang city to survey and plant signs restricting the operation of some vehicles during peak hours (from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. and from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.) on some routes with a high density of shuttle buses transporting workers.

The pandemic prevention and control work has always been paid attention. The department has directed transport units picking up workers to strictly follow the "5K" message. Means of transport must be regularly disinfected and drivers must be tested for Covid-19 screening. The department will refuse to grant badges to units that do not strictly comply with pandemic prevention and control regulations.

Enterprises in industrial parks and clusters have made strong recovery, leading to an increase in workers going to work. Workers in the industrial parks rose by nearly 20,000 compared to the figure before the epidemic, mainly local people.

In order to create favorable conditions for worker transportation and limit personal vehicles to factories, thus bringing in practical benefits to employees and employees, the Department of Transport will continue to issue badges for shuttle buses in accordance with regulations; and receive requests of enterprises to use transport services to pick up workers in the province.

The department will regularly monitor shuttle buses through the cruise control devices to promptly detect, correct and handle violations; provide information on the capacity of transport units capable of providing shuttle buses carrying workers to industrial parks and clusters, and employers, and post it on the website of the Department of Transport (http://sgtvt.bacgiang.gov.vn/). The department will coordinate with the People's Committees of districts and city to arrange and build stops and parks on roads with a high density of worker shuttles.

Do Thi Lan, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport, said: "Along with the above solutions, the department proposed the provincial IPs Management Board enhance communication work to encourage enterprises in industrial zones to offer shuttle services and limit financial support for workers. If enterprises cannot do it, a list of workers wishing to travel by bus should be made and sent to the Department of Transport for support.
