Designed by painter Pham Trung Ha of the Vietnam Post Corporation, the stamp shows the contrast between a normal healthy lung and that of a smoker and those who are passively exposed to tobacco smoke for a long time.
Addressing the launch, MIC Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hong said that the stamp is expected to contribute a voice to the implementation of the law on tobacco harm control and prevention, and the national strategy for prevention and control of tobacco’s harmful effects on health.
According to statistics from the World Health Organisation, smoking kills 7 million people each year, almost 900,000 of them being passive-smokers. Listed among the 15 countries with the highest number of smokers in the world, Vietnam is estimated to have 40,000 deaths from smoking-related diseases annually.
