Updated: 20:39, 23/10/2021
HCMC's Thu Duc City administration said it plans to immunize 100,000 people aged between 12 and 17 against Covid-19 starting Oct. 25.

It will start with people aged 16 and 17, before gradually working its way downward.

In each age group, priority will be given to those suffering from obesity and underlying diseases.

The vaccines used will be ones approved by the Ministry of Health for children, which it has yet to do, however.

Thu Duc City, home to a large expat community in the former District 2, has gathered opinions from parents and guardians through schools about whether they want their children to be vaccinated.

Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control on Friday instructed the Department of Education to draw up a list of students from 6th and 12th grades for vaccination.

The Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs has been told to work with districts to draw up a list of people aged 12 to 17 not attending schools.

HCMC has yet to announce when it will start vaccinating its 780,000 people aged under 18.

It has given the first shot of vaccines to more than 99 percent of its populace aged over 18, and both doses to 77 percent.
