Track and field athlete Nguyen Thi Oanh wins gold and sets record at 2018 National Sports Festival

(BGO) – The athletes of the Bac Giang sports team took a great effort for a successful competition day at the ongoing National Sports Festival on November 28, especially Nguyen Thi Oanh in track and field event.

As the champion of SEA Games 29, Oanh performed with the impressive manner in the women’s 1,500-meter run with 4 minutes 14 seconds 67 that helped her win a gold medal and set a new record with nearly 3 minutes ahead of the current one.

The leader of Bac Giang sports delegation congratulated and granted a cash award worth 15 million VND (643 USD) to Oanh right after the athletes finished the track.

In the same morning, in game, 3 member team from Bac Giang province earned a shuttlecock kicking bronze medal while Tran Thi Phuong Thuy pocketed a badminton women’s singles silver after being defeated by Nguyen Thuy Linh from Da Nang team with the score of 0-2 in the final match in the afternoon.

Thus, as of November 28, Bac Giang sports team bagged a total of 2 golds, 1 silver and 3 bronzes and rank the 25th position in the medal tally.

Among the mountainous provinces, Bac Giang team secured the third place, after Hoa Binh and Phu Tho provinces.

At the end of competition day on November 28, Ha Noi delegation still led the medal tally with 46 golds, 45 silvers, 30 bronzes, followed by Ho Chi Minh city (29 golds, 28 silvers and 32 bronzes) and Military delegation (9 golds, 13 silvers and 18 bronzes).
