Trinh Duy Hieu bags silver at International Physics Olympiad

(BGO) - All members of Vietnamese team have won medals at the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2018) held in Lisbon capital, Portugal from July 21 to 29.

The gold medal winners are Nguyen Ngoc Long and Tran Duc Huy, 12th graders from Lam Son High School for Gifted Students in Thanh Hoa province and Hanoi-Amsterdam High School for Gifted Students, respectively.

Trinh Duy Hieu of Bac Giang High School for Gifted Student and Nguyen Xuan Tan from High School for Gifted Students, Hanoi University of Science, Vietnam National University won the silver medals. Both are 11th graders. Meanwhile, Nguyen Van Thanh Loi, 12th graders from Quang Trung High School for Gifted Students in Binh Phuoc province pocketed a bronze medal.

The 49th IPhO 2018 drew about 400 students from 86 countries and territories. At the event, Trinh Duy Hieu excellently achieved 31.35 points (gold medal is awarded to students with over 35 points), bringing the glory to the school and Bac Giang province. Previously, Hieu won a gold medal at the 19th Asian Physics Olympiad in May 2018.

This is the fourth time students of Bac Giang High School for Gifted Student have been selected to participate in the regional and international Olympiads and won medals in three out of four events.

Vietnamese team is scheduled to arrive at Noi Bai AirPort (Hanoi) on July 30.
