Police officers were stationed along multiple Hanoi streets like Tran Nhat Duat, Tran Quang Khai and Trang Tien. Teams of police officers, militia members and volunteers were spaced around a meter apart.
Underneath the Long Bien Bridge, the areas near the market had fewer people than usual, while fruit vendors on the sidewalks have moved things into the shops. Houses along the streets had their blinders closed.
At around 3:20 p.m., the entourage traveled under the Long Bien Bridge to get to Trang Tien. The vehicles traveled past the Hanoi Opera House and other iconic sites.
Biden began his visit to Vietnam on Sunday afternoon. Over the next 24 hours, he participated in several activities, notably a meeting with General Party Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong where the two leaders announced the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the U.S.
With this visit, Biden has become the fifth U.S. president to visit Vietnam since the two countries normalized relations in 1995.
