Vice Chairman of provincial People's Committee Le O Pich visits KOICA Office in Hanoi ahead of New Year holiday

(BGO) - On the morning of December 22, Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le O Pich visited and offered New Year greetings to the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Office in Hanoi.

Welcoming the delegation was Cho Han-Deog, Country Director of KOICA in Vietnam.

KOICA opened its representative office in Vietnam in 1994. In Bac Giang, over the past years, through the agency, the Republic of Korean Government has funded the construction of the Vietnam - Korea Technology Vocational College with a total investment of 320 billion VND (913.8 million USD), of which, non-refundable aid of KOICA was 208 billion VND. In 2014, the school organized the first training course. It now offers training in 12 occupations with three systems: college, intermediate and elementary. After the school was put into operation, KOICA continued to send delegations of experts and volunteers to assist its training and provided equipment for the school. In early 2020, the agency gave an equipment package worth more than 600,000 USD to the college.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Le O Pich informed the KOICA representative about the socio-economic situation of Bac Giang province.

On behalf of the provincial leaders, the Vice Chairman of the provincial People's Committee presented flowers and gifts to and congratulated Cho Han-Deog on the occasion of the New Year 2021. After giving a brief of the province’s outstanding socio-economic outcomes, especially in attracting Korean investors, Pich affirmed that with the policy of promoting industrial development in association with urban development, the provincial People's Committee wished KOICA to support the province in all areas, particularly building Bac Giang city into a smart city. At the same time, it should continue to help the Vietnam - Korea Technology Vocational College expand its training scale, and aid the development of a number of industries where Korean vocational training institutions are strong in and Korean FDI enterprises have demand for technical workers.

He proposed the agency facilitate the organization of cultural exchange activities to increase understanding between the people of the two countries, especially between the people of Bac Giang and the Korean community living and working in the province.

For his part, Cho believed that the relationship between KOICA and the province will further develop in the future. With the province's impressive economic growth in 2020, Bac Giang will continue to prosper in the following years, contributing to the overall development of the country. He asked the province to review and include specific proposals in the dossier to build Bac Giang city into a smart city so that KOICA will have an appropriate form of support.
