Esri, a leading provider of GIS software, acknowledged the department’s successful use of ArcGIS technology to build and update Vietnam’s national geographic database and create detailed topographic maps. These essential tools have been instrumental in supporting government planning and operations at all levels.
In addition to leveraging technology, the department has prioritised human capital development through an extensive e-learning programme. Over 1,000 individuals have completed training on GIS software and are continuing with advanced courses.
The department’s commitment to advancing GIS is aligned with Vietnam’s broader digital transformation goals. A government-approved strategy for the surveying and mapping sector outlines a vision for utilising cutting-edge technologies like cloud computing, artificial intelligence and big data analytics to build a national geospatial data infrastructure.
The annual Esri User Conference brought together GIS professionals from around the world to share knowledge and best practices. It attracts tens of thousands of participants from over 130 countries each year.
