Vietnam, Japan deepen strategic partnership

Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh hosted a reception for visiting Japanese State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Junji Suzuki in Hanoi on July 29.

Speaking at the reception, Deputy PM Binh expressed his pleasure that in recent years, relations between Vietnam and Japan have grown rapidly.

Two-way trade in the first five months of 2019 reached US$15.28 billion, a year-on-year rise of 3.2%. As of May 2019, Japan had 4,149 valid foreign direct investment (FDI) projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of more than US$57.4 billion, ranking second among the 116 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Besides trade and investment, Vietnam and Japan have been developing their cooperation in agriculture, climate change adaptation, education-training, tourism, and locality-to-locality cooperation.

Deputy PM Binh spoke highly of the Vietnam visit made by State Minister Junji Suzuki, saying that this is a practical activity for the two sides to share their experiences on inspection, administrative consultancy and administrative complaint settlement.

He expressed his belief that based on the Memorandum of Understanding signed in 2013 between the Government Inspectorate of Vietnam and the Ministry for Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan will continue to cooperate in a more close, practical and effective manner, contributing to further to the development of the Vietnam - Japan Extensive Strategic Partnership.

For his part, State Minister for Internal Affairs and Communications Junji Suzuki said that Vietnam is an important partner of Japan.

There are currently over 330,000 Vietnamese people living in Japan, he said, adding in 2019, Vietnam and Japan signed a Memorandum of Understanding on the reception of special skilled labour in 14 areas, including information technology and medical care.

He also expressed his hope that there will be more and more Vietnamese people working in Japan in the future.

The State Minister also informed the Deputy PM about the cooperation results between the Statistics Bureau, Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan and the General Statistics Office under the Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam; as well as shared experience in the process of digitalisation and building an e-Government.

ASEAN-Japan Music Festival 2019 to be held
