Vietnamese citizen wins Saint Petersburg's prestigious prize

Nguyen Quoc Hung, a Vietnamese citizen, has won the Golden Lion Award of Russia's St. Petersburg city for his contributions to the prosperity of the people of Saint Petersburg.

The Committee for the External Relations of Saint-Petersburg held the sixth Golden Lion award ceremony in the field of international and inter-regional cooperation, in the city of Saint Petersburg, Russia, on December 19.

Starting in 2017, this year's Golden Lion Award was presented to ten individuals in ten categories for their contribution to the development of external relations between Saint Petersburg city and foreign partners; popularising the Russian language and culture; preserving historical memories, promoting investment projects, and promoting export potential.

Expressing his sense of honour to represent the Vietnamese Community in Russia and receive the noble award, Nguyen Quoc Hung emphasised that the award affirms the appreciation of the Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg and the city government for the efforts and the achievements of the Vietnamese community in Russia, especially the Vietnamese community in Saint Petersburg city.

Director of the Traditions and Friendship Fund Foundation Nguyen Quoc Hung affirmed that the decision of the Saint Petersburg city government to choose Vietnam as a priority direction in the city's foreign policy has made a breakthrough in promoting bilateral relations, with a plethora of events, conferences, seminars, forums and information exchange between delegations, businesses, and social organisation.

Cooperation between Saint Petersburg city and Vietnamese localities has become a model in cooperation between the localities of the two countries, he added.

According to Nguyen Quoc Hung, the Vietnamese Association in Russia is proud to have accompanied the Committee for External Relations of Saint-Petersburg in its cooperation projects.

In 2023, Vietnam and Russia will celebrate the 100th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh's first visit to Petrograd, now named Saint Petersburg.

People of the two countries are looking forward to an event erecting a statue of President Ho Chi Minh in the "northern capital" of Russia on this important occasion.
