Vietnamese designer takes 200 hours to make dress for Adele

Updated: 11:22, 19/10/2023
It took designer Cong Tri and 10 skilled artisans 200 hours to finish a dress with hundreds of amber Swarovski crystals for pop superstar Adele.

To prepare for a performance in the U.S. in mid-October as part of the "Weekends with Adele" series, Adele’s team and Cong Tri discussed and came up with ideas for the dress from August.

In his second time making a dress for Adele, Cong Tri said he found inspiration quickly because he already understood her spirit and taste.

The Bardot dress is made from high-quality black fabric, blending modern and classic looks. The dress with just the right amount of waist tightening helps adorn Adele’s curves.

The highlight of the design is the elaborate beading technique that has Cong Tri's signature touch. It took a team of 10 artisans more than 200 hours to attach amber Swarovski crystals of various sizes to the dress. The big stitches made vertical stripes, creating an eye-catching effect and a slim, tall figure for the wearer.

At the end of December last year, Cong Tri made a dress for Adele for the first time in "Weekends with Adele.

The designer created a unique dress with a fireworks pattern, with the meaning of a strong, brilliant and successful new beginning to the year. When Cong Tri thinks of Adele, he says he thinks of healing through music.

Adele is performing regularly in Las Vegas at the moment.

"Weekends With Adele" initially lasted from Nov. 18, 2022 to March 25, 2023, then the singer decided to perform 34 more shows from June to November. Tickets to the show range from $335 to over $1,000.

Not only is Adele highly appreciated for her music, but she is also praised by fashion magazines such as Vogue and Elle for her series of dresses for each performance. The common point of these dresses is that they are all black, combined with sparkling details.

Adele, 34, is one of the best-selling music artists of all time, with over 100 million records sold worldwide. She was named one of the best-selling artists of the 2010s in the United States and the world, as well as the best-selling female artist of the 21st century in the United Kingdom. Adele has won 16 Grammy Awards, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe and an Emmy.

Cong Tri, born in Da Nang in 1978, is a member of the Asian Fashion Association. He has created dresses for many A-list celebrities such as Beyonce, Miley Cyrus, Jennifer Lopez, Charlize Theron, former U.S. First Lady Michelle Obama, and Rosé of Blackpink.
